Abstract

Digitalization represents one of the key processes that significantly influence the transformation of contemporary banking operations and the efficiency of the financial system. The aim of this paper is to examine the impact of digitalization on the efficiency of the banking sector in the Republic of Serbia, with particular emphasis on the period following the COVID-19 pandemic, when the adoption of digital banking services accelerated considerably. The research is based on the analysis of secondary data provided by the National Bank of Serbia and the application of descriptive statistical methods. The results indicate a stable increase in the number of mobile and electronic banking users, as well as growth in the volume of digital payment transactions, with mobile banking emerging as the dominant channel for conducting financial transactions. The findings confirm that digitalization contributes to the improvement of operational efficiency in the banking sector through the rationalization of business processes, cost reduction, and enhanced resilience of banks. This study contributes to a better understanding of the role of digitalization in modern banking and provides a basis for further empirical research in this field.
